Answers before you join
A few good questions.
Clear, practical answers.
Find help with registration, audio, Android installation and the shared network. Search by a word such as “password,” “microphone” or “DMR.”
On the application sign-in page, choose Register new account. Administrator approval is required.
Registration
Do I need an amateur radio license?
DIGI HAM LINK is intended for licensed amateur radio operators. Register with your callsign. The administrator reviews requests before approving access.
Registration
Do I need my own AllStar node?
No, not for shared access. Choose the shared registration option and use the hosted room after approval. The personal-node option is for authorized users who want their own AllStar node hosted on this server.
Registration
Why can’t I sign in immediately after registering?
A received-registration message confirms submission, not approval. Your request must be reviewed and approved before sign-in. There is no guaranteed approval time.
Registration
Is uploading my license required?
The administrator can turn the license-upload requirement on or off for new requests. Follow the registration form’s current instructions. When supplied, the document is stored privately for authorized administrator review.
Registration
Which license files can I upload?
PDF, JPG, JPEG and PNG are supported, up to 10 MB. The callsign and license holder’s name should be readable. The server validates file content and size; renaming an unsupported file does not make it valid.
Registration
What password should I use?
Use your DIGI HAM LINK login password with your callsign. New user passwords need at least eight supported characters; choose a strong unique password. An AllStar node registration password is a separate credential used only for personal-node hosting.
Registration
What information is collected for a personal node?
Your node number, its registration password and your authorization to host it, along with your name, callsign, email and app password. Administrator approval and successful configuration are required. Coordinate any existing node registration first.
Access
Can I install this on Android?
Yes, as an installable web app in a supported browser. Use the offered install control or browser install menu. Incognito browsing may not offer installation; reopen the secure address in a normal browser window.
Access
Is it available as a native Android background service?
The current application is a web app. Browser and operating-system behavior can interrupt it when the screen locks or you switch apps. Installation does not guarantee continuous background audio.
Access
Can I use a desktop computer?
Yes, with a compatible browser and audio devices. Connect and select a microphone or headset, then grant microphone permission. Some audio sessions fail to start if no input device is available.
Radio
Does connecting turn my microphone on continuously?
Radio operation uses hold-to-talk PTT. Keep PTT released while listening and press it deliberately to transmit. A connection or input meter is not proof of a transmission reaching a remote station.
Radio
What does Reconnect audio do?
It attempts to recover your browser radio audio session with PTT released. It does not inherently disconnect all remote nodes or change the shared bridge’s selected talkgroup.
Radio
Where are microphone gain and audio tests?
They are in Settings in the updated interface, together with received-audio playback controls. Gain adjusts the local microphone level. Server and private echo tests help check parts of the audio path.
Radio
Why is a callsign missing or different in Now Talking?
The display uses reported activity and identifiers available from the connected systems. It may show a linked node’s identity rather than a verified individual speaker, and sometimes no callsign is available.
Connections
Who controls the shared room’s links?
The owner manages the room’s shared network links and bridge destination. Other accounts only receive controls allowed by their permissions. Changes to a shared destination can affect everyone in that room.
Connections
What does Single destination mean?
When enabled, an authorized connection request can remove other remote destinations before connecting a new one. Review the option before linking systems, especially in a shared room.
Connections
Are all nodes in the directory guaranteed to connect?
No. The directory lists nodes reporting activity to AllStarLink. A listing does not prove someone is speaking or that the remote system will accept a connection. Nodes that do not report may be absent.
Connections
Can I choose any DMR talkgroup myself?
The configured shared BrandMeister bridge has owner-controlled talkgroup selection. Shared members follow that selection. Availability depends on the configured network connection and bridge, not just entering a group number.
Connections
Do I need another password for each DMR talkgroup?
The bridge uses its configured BrandMeister network credentials. Selecting a group does not normally require a separate application password for that talkgroup. Group accessibility and network policies still apply.
Connections
Are YSF and EchoLink included automatically?
No. They require separate validated/configured bridge setups. The application can expose their supported controls when enabled, but membership alone does not activate these modes.
Connections
Will closing my phone remove the server’s linked nodes?
Not inherently. Server-side links can remain while your personal browser audio session ends. Their continued operation depends on the server, network and bridge services.
Accounts
Can I reset my password?
Use the available recovery option if the server’s email recovery is configured, or ask the administrator for help. An email field alone does not guarantee password-reset messages are enabled.
Accounts
Will I receive an approval email?
That depends on whether the administrator has configured and enabled email delivery. Do not assume a message was sent; the received-registration notice only confirms the request was submitted.
Accounts
Can I use a different shared room?
Additional independent shared rooms are a future expansion and require node configuration and permissions. The current shared setup does not promise a separate room or private bridge for every account.

Request an account, wait for approval, and explore the systems linked to your assigned room. Shared access does not require your own AllStar node credentials.
For licensed amateur radio operators. Approval is required before you can sign in. Available controls depend on your account permissions and configured bridges.
